Choosing a toilet bowl looks simple until you stand in front of forty of them. The good news is that only three decisions really matter, and each one is easy to settle once you know what to look for.
1. Check your trap type first
Every HDB flat and condominium has a fixed waste outlet. S-trap outlets exit through the floor, P-trap outlets exit through the wall. This is not a preference — it is determined by your existing plumbing, and choosing wrongly means costly hacking work. Measure the distance from the finished wall to the centre of the outlet before you shop.
2. Decide between rimless and conventional
Rimless bowls remove the hidden channel around the rim where limescale and bacteria collect. They cost slightly more but are dramatically easier to keep clean, particularly in Singapore's humidity. For a common bathroom used by children or guests, the upgrade pays for itself in maintenance time.
3. Consider wall-hung for compact bathrooms
A wall-hung bowl frees the floor beneath it, which makes a small bathroom read as noticeably larger and simplifies mopping. It requires a concealed cistern and a supporting frame, so it must be planned before tiling begins.
Flush rate and water efficiency
Look for a dual-flush model rated at 3 litres and 4.5 litres. In Singapore the Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme tick rating is displayed on every unit, and a higher rating translates directly into lower monthly bills.
Still unsure? Bring your floor plan to our Geylang Road showroom and our team will match a bowl to your outlet position on the spot.
